5. Students will develop a variety of reading comprehension strategies—The understanding of meaning in text.

First Trimester We will use controlled text to develop stronger decoding (breaking words apart) and spelling skills.
F.A.S.T. Readers, Power Readers, and FLYLeaf books will be used to develop stronger comprehension and vocabulary
Homework Mondays through Thursdays your child will bring home specific work to complete. This may include reviewing flashcards and/or reading a book or passage. This is in addition to regular 1st grade homework.. It is very important that you take 10 minutes each night to have your child read these to you. Your child will benefit from this practice and your support.
