Goals: 1. Students will develop stronger phonemic awareness skills—The knowledge and manipulation of sounds in spoken words.
2. Students will learn beginning phonics skills—The relationship between written and spoken letters and sounds.
3. Students will improve their reading fluency—The ability to read with accuracy, and with appropriate rate, expression, and phrasing.
4. Students will enhance their vocabulary—The knowledge of words, their definitions, and context.
5. Students will develop a variety of reading comprehension strategies—The understanding of meaning in text.
1st Grade Textbooks and Resources -Orton Gillingham Based Programs including: CR Success, Wilson, and Lindamood
First Trimester We will use controlled text to develop stronger decoding (breaking words apart) and spelling skills.
F.A.S.T. Readers, Power Readers, and FLYLeaf books will be used to develop stronger comprehension and vocabulary
Homework Mondays through Thursdays your child will bring home specific work to complete. This may include reviewing flashcards and/or reading a book or passage. This is in addition to regular 1st grade homework.. It is very important that you take 10 minutes each night to have your child read these to you. Your child will benefit from this practice and your support.
